RESUMEN

Se examina la evolución de la atención médica y social del anciano en el periodo histórico que tal cometido se conoce con el término de Gerocomia. Se analizan las razones históricas que la hacen comprensible y las que imponen, ya avanzado el siglo XIX, su superación con la diferenciación clínica del enfermar del anciano, incorporando con ello un capítulo nuevo a la patología que recibirá el nombre de Geriatría.

ABSTRACT

It is studied the evolution of medical and social attention to aged persons in the historical period, and this task is known under the name of Gerocomia. They are analyzed the historical reasons that make it understandable and the ones which, in the Ias part of the 19th century, impose its superseding due to the clinical differentiation of the process of aged persons getting ill; in this way, a new chapter is added to the pathology which will be called Geriatrics.
